About Miriam

An AASECT-certified sexuality educator, social work professional, and public health enthusiast, I aim to increase self-efficacy by empowering individuals and communities with the information and resources they need to make decisions about their health and wellbeing.

Unlike most people in this country, I was fortunate to receive decent sex education at my Long Island public school, but also at home - my mom, an OBGYN, was open, honest, and nurturing when it came to sexual health. This great foundation and simultaneous understanding that it was not the norm led me to get trained as a Peer Advocate for Sexual Health as an undergraduate at Duke University.

After 3 years educating the campus community, I went off to pursue an MSW focused on Sexual Health Education at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. While there, I served as the Sexual Health Promotion Coordinator on campus, supervising a group of Peer Sexual Health Educators, running sex education programming, and innovating health promotion in the virtual space.

In 2021 I relocated to the DC area, where I spent a year working with a local agency to educate over 1,500 youth, parents, and service providers about healthy relationships. Currently, I am the Sexual Health Program Assistant Coordinator at the University of Maryland College Park, where I manage STI testing for ~200 students a semester and the distribution of ~50,000 safer sex supplies a year, as well as support outreach, promotion, and consultation efforts.

In addition to my work at UMD, I have worked with nonprofits, health care centers, religious institutions, camps, secondary schools, and universities to educate thousands of youth and adults about sexual health and healthy relationships. I am available to work with individuals, groups, and organizations.
